Audi is developing a new virtual reality (VR) application that rear seat passengers can use while traveling: holoride
Thanks to the application developed by Audi, passengers will be able to have a more enjoyable journey thanks to VR glasses in many activities, from movies to games to meeting presentations. The monitored virtual content will adapt to the car’s driving movements in real time.
Audi offers innovative VR or XR (augmented reality) technology that makes car travel a multimodal experience.
On the platform, called Holoride, rear seat passengers use a virtual reality app where they can experience movies, video games, and interactive content more realistically. Thanks to the app, which has a new technology that adapts to the driving movements of the vehicle in real time, for example, the passenger who looks at a spaceship with VR glasses during the curves of the vehicle can see that the spacecraft of the imaginary world is becoming the same direction, and that the spacecraft is accelerating with the acceleration of the vehicle.
A new medium: holoride
Holoride, a platform that allows content developers to create augmented reality formats, creates new media with its specially developed software kit. The new work on the Unity game engine, called the Elastic Software Development Kit (SDK), gives developers access to tools to create gaming experiences and entertainment formats. This new category of media, which provides a new approach to content creation, can be used in many different areas, from space adventures to hit movies and historical city tours.
Virtual tour of Salzburg
Audi first used the new entertainment format at the Salzburg Festival. In the back seat of Audi e-tron, festival attendees had the opportunity to take a virtual tour of the city organized by the festival and see historical scenes from the festival’s past.
First unveiled at CES 2019 in Las Vegas, holoride has also developed, in collaboration with Disney, an in-vehicle virtual reality game based on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy character Rocket Raccoon.
