Augmented reality and future of learning outcomes

It is a very exciting time in the world of education.

Thanks to ever-advanced technology, educators now have access to incredibly useful tools that are more effective than anything else they have ever had access to. Given the technological advances that have taken place and will continue to take place during their time, this generation will be the most technologically advanced of any generation to date. They will also be a generation more immersed in the use of technology.

IGeneration members use the technology on a regular and rampant basis. Things like personal computers, laptops, tablets, smartphones, and video games are the norm for this demographic. Because technology is available and used so often, this group adapts to it naturally. In fact, many children of this generation use some form of technology even before the school day begins. In short, they do not know a world without technology, and therefore schools should do everything possible to integrate technological tools into the classroom. In doing so, it is ensured that the needs of current learners are met by presenting them with information in the way that can best relate to them.

The use of immersive technology in the classroom

More and more educators are realizing the benefits that technology can offer iGeneration students. As such, they are beginning to implement highly advanced technological tools in the classroom setting.

There are several types of advanced technologies that can be seen in schools around the world:

  • Mixed reality (MR)
  • Robotics
  • Artificial intelligence

In 2018, augmented reality showed record growth. By 2023, this market is ready to work with a staggering $ 61.39 billion. RA is the most important form of technology this year, as its availability and use is expected to increase during this year. Given the degree of normalcy of RA, and the fact that it will be available even more easily, it is safe to say that it is already here to stay. Moreover, it is safe to assume that it will become a vital component of all kinds of industries; education and training included.

For children who are part of iGeneration, the use of augmented reality in the classroom will create a highly advanced and totally unique learning experience; an experience that older generations will never have experienced, and that is sure to be impressive.

Schools that implement RA technology in their classrooms, as well as to use them during field trips, are prepared to better prepare their students for the future of the world. It is easy to understand why, since RA can present information, it is such an attractive and totally immersive way; as well as the fact that technology will only continue to become more common in our society.

How is augmented reality in education

Augmented reality consists of the presentation of artificial stimuli to present what appear to be real, physical, and tactile elements through the use of multisensory technology. In other words, this type of technology involves the senses; specifically sight and sound. The use of RA literally makes users feel like they are experiencing something they might not otherwise be able to experience; it can take them to new places and really immerse them in different experiences.

There are a multitude of ways in which augmented reality can be used in the classroom. Some examples include:

  • Virtual tours: While studying distant places they might not otherwise be able to reach, AR can take students to the locations they study. For example, while learning about the colonial era, RA can be used to transport students to Colonial Williamsburg; or, while studying the Great Wall of China, students can use this technology to get a close and personal view of the ancient wonder.
  • Interactive exams: RA can also be used as a way to present all kinds of information to students in a more meaningful way. For example, while studying the life cycle of certain species of animals, virtual reality can afford to see how different animals evolve over time.
  • Attractive presentations: Augmented reality can also be used to make traditional presentations much more appealing. The Alpha generation will be more engaged when information is presented to them through this form of technology rather than a standard conference.

The future of education is quite exciting thanks to technological advances, such as augmented reality.
