My experience with the evocative, offline creativity of contemporary dance company The Rosin Box is based on the pandemic, when getting out of the lines (or out of the box, if you will) I thought was a must. But with this weekend’s Ghost Light Masquerade, they return to the site, in person, with an immersive and mysterious audience experience.
Performed outdoors, under the stars of Liberty Station, the performances will explore the theater’s concerns and superstitions and will also engage the audience. Dances will not be passively consumed as much as stumbled upon or discovered, hidden in the corners of the performance space as you explore. Perhaps face-to-face performances are informed of what is possible with augmented reality, and perhaps it is a sign of what can change when the performing arts go through the other side of the pandemic.
Rosin Box will also include this production for virtual consumption later this month, July 23-30, with tickets ranging from $ 35 to $ 50, depending on whether you include additional perks, such as a cocktail kit and virtual reality headsets.
Details: Performances Friday and Saturday, July 9-10, 2021, 8 p.m. 2640 Historic Decatur Rd., Liberty Station. $ 65

From the organizers:
Ghost Light Masquerade is back!
The myths and superstitions that haunt the theater come to life in this outdoor walking performance. You, our guests, can only enter with a secret password, and once inside, you are free to explore the space while our masquerade residents dance between reality and legend.
