Amid growing enthusiasm for Metaverse, iris recognition specialist IriTech wants to advance the game through a partnership with Patron Co., which will see the two collaborate on a biometric module aimed primarily at applications ‘smart glasses.
The planned module for companies will feature infrared LEDs and will support iris recognition and eye tracking functions. Biometric technology will allow for convenient user authentication while wearing smart glasses or a headset product, while eye tracking will help facilitate interaction with augmented reality and virtual reality interfaces.
Patron Co., based in Korea, will be in charge of manufacturing, as it has established itself as a specialist in the manufacture of telephone antennas and camera modules. IriTech, meanwhile, is well known for its biometric technology, which has been used in consumer products and national identification programs, among other applications; and in a statement announcing the collaboration, the company explained that eye tracking is a “byproduct” of its biometric technology.
In their announcement, the companies noted the increase in activity in the emerging space of Metaverse, in which large technology companies such as “Facebook, Microsoft, Nvidia, the owner of Fortnite, Epic Games and even Apple, they invest billions of dollars. ”
Facebook has unveiled its first attempt to wear smart glasses this week. As a result of a collaboration with Ray-Ban, the smart glasses support music streaming, phone calls, and photo and video capture. Smartphones don’t yet support the kind of AR / VR capabilities found in Facebook’s Oculus headphones, but they’re generally considered a step in that direction when it comes to everyday laptops.
For IriTech, the trend looks promising, given the applications offered by its biometric technology.
