Syracuse defensive line commitment Malachi Davis was finally able to spend time on the Syracuse campus and see his future coaches in person. The NCAA lifted pandemic-related hiring restrictions that banned face-to-face contact on June 1st. Last weekend, Davis paid an official visit to downtown New York. AllSyracuse.com talked to Davis about how it went.

Q: How was the visit?
Davis: “We ate dinner at Club 44 inside the Carrier Dome, which was nice. We had a chance to hear what it feels like to be a football player on Syracuse in public, which was nice. visiting an academic school of our choice, I chose the Whitman School of Business.The best part for me was obviously the photo shoot and our one-on-one time with the players.I only met some of my future classmates of team.
Q: Who was your player host and what was it like to be with him?
Davis: “My player host was Curtis Harper and he also played on the defensive line. It was like staying with a teammate. It was great. He told me Cuse would prepare me for whatever he wanted in my future.”
Q: How was it going in the arcade?
Davis: “It was a lot of fun. I was with Cornell Perry and Curtis (Harper), but we played a virtual reality game that was pretty fun. I also looked a bit with (Recruitment Director) Kramer (Cook).” .
Q: What coaches did you talk to on the visit and what was your message?
Davis: “I talked to Coach Achuff, Coach Kramer, Coach Reynolds, Coach Maddox, Coach Monroe and Coach Babers. I think that’s the majority of them. His message was that Syracuse will be able to take me to whatever I want in my future. It was great to be able to see some faces without masks and things like that. Just having an idea of what they are in person was nice. ”
Q: Were you surprised by any of the visit?
Davis: “The size of the campus surprised me because it’s in a smaller place, but they find a way to make it right and I like it.”

Q: What other campus recruits did you try to accompany you to Syracuse?
Davis: “Davis Jackson and Quan Peterson were the top recruits I talked to. I think they’ll definitely want to come back in the fall.”
Q: You are already engaged, but did the visit consolidate your decision?
Davis: “Yeah, I’m 100% in my Cuse decision. I felt right at home. From the city to the coaches, the players, the academics, and even the dorms, everything is right for me.”
