DENVER: You won’t soon have to drive to Santa Fe to see a Meow Wolf exhibit.
Meow Wolf has announced plans to open the new 90,000-square-foot location in downtown Denver on Friday, Sept. 17.
The Denver exhibition called “Convergence Station” will be Meow Wolf’s third permanent installation.
The permanent art exhibit is located between the Colfax Avenue viaducts and Interstate 25 between Elitch Gardens and Empower Field at Mile High.
Planned tickets are already on sale. Tickets are available for pre-purchase: $ 45 for general admission, $ 40 for children, seniors and the military, and $ 35 for Colorado residents.
“The Convergence Station is the first stop on a quantum journey of exploration and discovery as passengers traverse new worlds and, like all Meow Wolf locations, the labyrinthine mysteries attract its vibrant walls, portals and holes of worm, “Meow Wolf said in a statement.
Meow Wolf, based in New Mexico, consists of more than 200 artists in architecture, sculpture, painting, photography, video, virtual and augmented reality, music engineering, narrative writing, performance and more, working to create bold experiences and immersive.
More than a million visitors have experienced Meow Wolf’s “House of Eternal Return” in Santa Fe since 2008. A second exhibit opened in Las Vegas in February 2021. Denver’s location is three times the size of the original Santa Fe exhibit.
More than 110 Colorado collaborating artists and more than 200 in-house artists have worked since 2018 to bring to life 79 unique projects at Convergence Station.
“Muralists, sculptors, fiber artists and technologists, to name a few, have come together to create a unique installation that will allow visitors to appreciate what it really means to be immersed in a narrative,” Meow Wolf said.
Among the most prominent collaborating artists working on this project are Kalyn Heffernan, Christopher Nelson, Everything is Terrible !, Molina Speaks and Sofie Birkin.
Large cranes were to be used to hoist art installations into the building before the final frame of the building was built in 2019.
“The Denver art scene is active and vibrant, making it the perfect venue for our next exhibit,” said Chadney Everett, executive creative director at Meow Wolf Denver.
“Convergence Station is Meow Wolf’s third permanent immersive experience and it will really change the way you see art. This exhibit is different from anything you’ve ever seen … From the swamp to the cathedral: there’s a narrative solid to find out if you choose, along with the truly amazing art, among the many talented creatives who have worked so hard to bring the vision to life. We can’t wait for everyone to explore it. “
Meow Wolf finally arrived in Denver thanks in part to the Denver Startup Week design chair, which invited the art group to participate in a panel that led to a chain of events that led to Mile High City.
According to a 2018 Meow Wolf press release, the group considered other Denver locations, including the old Denver Post building, before deciding on the location for Colfax Avenue.
“We are thrilled to design this dynamic addition to downtown Denver, which will activate the area below and above the viaducts and attract year-round visitors,” said Anthony Guida, design director at Meow Wolf. “Meow Wolf is highly motivated to contribute to the revitalization of the Platte River and we chose the place because it is fun, quirky and is an opportunity for low-impact urban sprawl. What better way to use the dynamic space between a bunch of viaducts than to build an amazing Meow Wolf experience? ”
In 2019, Meow Wolf partnered with Elitch Gardens Theme & Water Park to open a new journey called “Caleidoscape”.
“Meow Wolf Kaleidoscope [is] an unseen attraction that draws guests to a densely immersive and fully interactive experience, ”said Elitch Gardens.
“Riders traveling through the Meow Wolf kaleidoscope will be transported to otherworldly movements, deep sound, wild color and interactive challenges that, if played well, can only save the day. This fascinating attraction will be the first dark journey directed. by artists in the world. he has never seen it “.
