NVIDIA brings millions more to the metaverse with an expanded Omniverse platform.

SANTA CLARA, California, August 10, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – SIGGRAPH-NVIDIA today announced a major expansion of NVIDIA Omniverse™, the world’s first simulation and collaboration platform that provides the basics of metaverse, through new integrations with Blender and Adobe that will open it up to millions more users.

Blender, the world’s leading open source 3D animation tool, will now be supported by Universal Scene Description (USD), which will allow artists to access Omniverse production pipes. Adobe is partnering with NVIDIA on a Substance 3D plugin that will provide Substance Material support to Omniverse, unlocking new material editing capabilities for Omniverse and Substance 3D users.

NVIDIA Omniverse allows designers, artists and reviewers to work together in real time through leading software applications in a shared virtual world from anywhere. Professionals from more than 500 companies, including SHoP Architects, South Park and Lockheed Martin, are evaluating the platform. Since the release of its open beta in December, more than 50,000 individual creators have downloaded Omniverse.

“NVIDIA Omniverse connects worlds by allowing the metaverse vision to come true,” said Richard Kerris, vice president of NVIDIA’s Omniverse development platform. “With the contributions of developers, partners and customers, we advance this revolutionary platform so that everyone, from individuals to large companies, can work with other people to build incredible virtual worlds that have the same look, feel and behavior as the world. physical “.

The metaverse is an immersive and connected shared virtual world. In it, artists can create unique digital scenes, architects can create beautiful buildings, and engineers can design new products for the home. These creations can be introduced to the physical world after being perfected in the digital world.

“A lot of companies are talking and have been talking about the metaverse, but NVIDIA is one of the few that really lives up to its promise,” said Jon Peddie, author, consultant and founder of Jon Peddie Research. “NVIDIA offers a broader understanding of the needs of designers of all kinds and has many of the tools they can use for free. The NVIDIA Omniverse platform has the potential to transform almost every industry by enabling truly collaborative and creative innovation in a common virtual space for the first time. ”

The Omniverse ecosystem is expanding
NVIDIA Omniverse has a fast-growing support partner ecosystem.

The key to adopting the Omniverse industry is Pixar’s open source, the foundation of Omniverse’s collaboration and simulation platform, which allows large teams to work simultaneously on multiple software applications in a single scene. Shared 3D. This open standard base offers software partners multiple ways to extend and connect to Omniverse, either by adopting and supporting USB, or by creating a plugin or using an Omniverse connector.

Apple, Pixar, and NVIDIA have collaborated to bring advanced physical capabilities to USD, adopting open standards to provide 3D workflows to billions of devices. Blender and NVIDIA have partnered to provide USD support for the upcoming version of Blender 3.0 and the millions of artists who use the software.

NVIDIA provides support in materials and USD in Blender 3.0 alpha USD, which will be available soon for the creators.

“NVIDIA’s engineering efforts to integrate USD into Blender are exemplary of how the industry contributes to open source,” said Ton Roosendaal, president of the Blender Foundation. “Thanks to USD, Blender artists can have high-quality access to studio pipelines and collaboration platforms like Omniverse.”

NVIDIA and Adobe are collaborating on a Substance 3D add-on that will unlock new material editing capabilities for Omniverse and Substance 3D users. Artists and creators will be able to work directly with Substance Materials from the Substance 3D Asset platform or created in Substance 3D applications, creating a smoother 3D workflow.

“Adobe is dedicated to an open and connected community of 3D designers,” said Sebastien Deguy, vice president of 3D and Immersive at Adobe. “As an industry standard, Substance will strengthen the Omniverse ecosystem by training 3D creators with access to Substance 3D materials.”

The NVIDIA Omniverse ecosystem continues to grow, connecting industry-leading applications from software companies such as Adobe, Autodesk, Bentley Systems, Blender, Clo Virtual Fashion, Epic Games, Esri, Golaem, Graphisoft, Lightmap, Maxon, McNeel & Associates, Onshape ® by PTC, Reallusion, Trimble and wrnch Inc.

World leaders use Omniverse
Among the more than 500 companies that have evaluated Omniverse are:

Lockheed Martin works with Omniverse for the simulation, prediction and suppression of forest fires. Its center of excellence in AI has launched an initiative with NVIDIA called Cognitive Mission Management to develop an emergency response and fire suppression strategy.

“The use of NVIDIA Omniverse and AI to simulate forest fires will help us predict the speed and in which directions they propagate and explore the effects of environmental variables such as wind, humidity and ground cover on their behavior, so that firefighting teams can respond better and reduce their detrimental impact, “said Shashi Bhushan, Lockheed Martin’s chief systems and AI systems architect.” Our ultimate goal is to develop models that coordinate sensor data and real-time analysis to report an AI that guides the different levels of human intervention. “

New York-based SHoP Architects uses Omniverse to collaborate and visualize in real time. Omniverse allows the company team to use the right software for the right task and gather all the resulting data in one place, where it can be expanded and deployed using the platform.

“The ability to make decisions quickly and accurately among our interdisciplinary teams is at the core of the SHoP process,” said Geof Bell, Associate, Digital Design and Delivery at SHoP Architects. “Omniverse will allow us to gather data from multiple experts in a unique authorized way, selecting it to present the right information at the right time, combined with high-quality visuals for smart, evocative design.”

South Park, the long Emmy Award-winning animated television series, is exploring Omniverse to allow several of its artists to collaborate on scenes and optimize their incredibly limited production time.

“NVIDIA Omniverse will offer multiple animators in our studio the ability to collaborate on a single scene simultaneously,” said JJ Franzen, CIO of South Park. “Using our NVIDIA RTX A6000 GPUs and Omniverse will provide our creative geniuses with more opportunities to cause ever-increasing problems in the program.”
