A new mobile app will keep participants connected while running, walking or rolling in support of 35 youth-focused charities in 19 countries

TORONTO, August 16, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Due to the ongoing impacts of COVID-19, RBC Race for the Kids will return in its global virtual format for a weekend of events October 16-17, 2021. Today, RBC opened registration for the weekend of the event and announced plans for its reinvented virtual participant experience with a new mobile app.

At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, RBC proactively pushed its long series of RBC Race for the Kids events to a global virtual format, ensuring that it could continue to support young people around the world as they faced the necessary restrictions for public meetings. As a result, $ 8.8 million it was raised by more than 33,000 participants by 2020, benefiting dozens of youth-focused charitable partners, who needed support and services more than ever.

A new way to compete
RBC Race for the Kids is open to everyone, regardless of geography, age or fitness. Participants can register for free at rbcraceforthekids.com – an integrated registration and fundraising platform that provides a seamless experience.

New for 2021, RBC Race for the Kids participants will experience the weekend of the event via a mobile app. After registering, participants can download the app to start interacting with its interactive and exciting features, such as:

  • Select a default distance to complete in the local community (no set routes). Depending on the distance chosen, the app will share a series of audio signals during the event to encourage and excite participants towards their personal goal.

  • Choose the most convenient method to record your activity: by using the tracker built into the app or by linking it to a portable fitness device.

  • Track training miles / miles, competing against individuals or teams to move up to the rankings and following the training activity of their teammates.

  • Recording the performance of the event and sharing your route map / photos in the app’s event feed or posting to your personal social media channels.

  • Unlock the augmented reality goal of the app to use face filters and digital medals during and after completing your event, which can also be posted on your personal social media channels.

Participants are encouraged to complete their career, walk or ride independently or with family and friends, observing local public health councils and government guidelines.
