The virtual reality boat ride shows shoppers the jungle at the West Orchard Mall

Visitors to the West Orchards Mall this summer can be forgiven for thinking they have been transported into the deepest jungle, courtesy of a new high-tech experience that has sailed just in time for the school holidays.

The Jungle VR Boat Ride sees normal shoppers become fearless explorers as you help the story’s hero, Dash, retrieve the lost crystals in this immersive experience.

After paying the booking fee, watch a quick security video before boarding the boat and putting on your virtual reality headset.

You will then be immersed in a boat ride in the jungle, with exciting twists and turns and even with the occasional snake.

The whole ride doesn’t last more than three minutes, but it doesn’t feel short as it’s really committed to the amazing graphics and scenery. The boat oscillates along with the graphics and you feel the breeze in your face as you practically navigate the river with Dash.

But keep in mind that along the way there are some pitfalls in your quest to find the crystal that without giving away too much are spectacular.

This trip promises to be an exciting getaway after the last year and a half

When it comes to intrigue about travel, it doesn’t just stop at the virtual reality experience, as originally the whole project had a different theme.

As Andy Talbot, a senior asset manager at West Orchards, explained: “We had originally planned for it to be a Santa’s sleigh experience to be launched last Christmas, but the blockade put this on hold, so that we have opened it now with our new theme. ”

He also added that the challenge of getting to the mall turned out to be as complicated as navigating a real river.

“We realized the walkway wouldn’t fit through the doors, so we had to remove the sides of the walkway and remove the doors from their frames.”

After managing this logistical hurdle, they began preparing the trip for the public, which included making it safe for Covid.

To this end, they painted the machine with an antibacterial lacquer and cleaned the headphones and assembled them after each use, as well as encouraging the different homes to sit apart wherever possible.

This trip promises to be an exciting getaway after the last year and a half and if you want to try it for yourself, reservations are open on the West Orchards website at GBP 5 per person.

The route is on level 3 of the mall and is open daily until September 5, 2021.
