XR3 is a joint collaboration of the Tribeca Film Festival, Cannes XR and NewImages Festival, and brings the film festival experience to users through virtual reality. By using VR headsets connected through the Museum of Other Realities, users will be able to explore a virtual museum with digital showcases from the three festivals. This exceeds 55 RV experiences and you can explore the event from now until July 17th.
To get started, first visit the Steam page. After getting the DLC, you can jump into the Museum of Other Realities. This virtual museum is a surreal experience where you can really enter an art exhibition, either by shrinking so that the work of art is larger than life or you can touch the piece to start the digital showcase. .
We were able to experience most of the digital showcases in the Tribeca Film Festival section of XR3, and here are some gems like Paper Birds and Marco & Polo Go Round.
Virtual reality is a fun way to experience short stories and Paper Birds uses this format to great effect. Imagine watching a story unfold around you as you watch little 3D animated characters spend the day on small theatrical stages. The presentation, animation, special effects and acting are top notch and the fantastic atmosphere is truly a spectacle to watch.
Marco & Polo Go Round is a virtual reality virtual short film where a couple is seen arguing as things start to turn upside down. Watch as objects fly toward the ceiling as you look around to make sure you don’t miss anything.
To see Tribeca’s list of digital stories, visit the page here. Some are only available at RV stations in person.
XR3 is now available through July 17 and each Festival DLC costs $ 14.99. Also, make sure you have enough time to experience this event, as you won’t be able to access the DLC after July 17th.
