Wolf3D launches Ready Player Me avatars between games for metaverse

Wolf3D has released its avatars of Croatian games Ready Player Me for the metaverse, the universe of virtual worlds that are interconnected, as in novels such as Snow Crash i Ready Player One.

Avatars are already used in more than 260 games and apps, and now players will be able to create custom avatars that they can make between video games, virtual reality experiences, and other apps using a single virtual identity.

The Avatar platform created by Wolf3D allows users to travel between video games, virtual reality experiences and other applications using a single virtual identity, said Timmu Tõke, co-founder of the company in an interview with GamesBeat.

“We are trying to build a cross-gaming service to allow many virtual worlds to exist,” Tõke said. “We see that more people are spending more and more time in virtual worlds. The metaverse is happening around us. But most don’t happen in a world or in an app. It is a network of different worlds that people visit to work, play and collaborate. And it makes no sense for the end user to create a new avatar identity for each of these experiences. It makes sense to have a portable entity that travels with you through many different games, apps and experiences. “

For developers, it takes a lot of time and resources to build. Wolf3D takes this task into the hands of developers and can integrate its engine into a game in a matter of days, Tõke said.

“Developers can focus on the basic game experience,” Tõke said. “Our background is building systems for business clients.”

Tõke said he believes the avatar center opens the door to the metaverse, which the company believes ultimately gives access to a wide range of applications through games, virtual reality experiences and beyond. The company has already collaborated with several key games and application partners so far, including Tencent, Verizon and HTC.

Critically independent of any virtual platform and ecosystem, Ready Player Me provides players and developers with plug-and-play tools to facilitate the integration of their avatar system into any virtual world or game engine. Eliminating the need to create a new avatar for each new app or game, users only need to log in with Ready Player Me and travel the metavers with a uniform 3D avatar. Avatars look realistic so you can look like them. But they have a kind of 3D cartoon style.

The growth rate of Ready Player Me avatar adoptions is 40% per month among game and app creators who make them available to their products.

Avatars are really useful and give people a great experience. Rivals include Genies, which has raised $ 65 million and is also creating avatars between games that use non-expendable tokens (NFTs), which can uniquely identify digital items as avatars. Crucible also sees avatars as the key technology for turning the metaverse into a normal, easily navigable universe. Over time, Wolf3D will have its own NFT-related solutions, but at the moment it doesn’t make a big bet, Tõke said.

“The goal is obviously to be the avatar of the metaverse and we believe he comes from being the best developer,” he said. “We want to have the best tools for avatar production.”

Currently, a user can send a photo and the first version of an avatar is created in seconds. People can modify it as they wish. Super-realistic avatars like the Epic Games MetaHumans are more realistic, but Tõke believes it will be some time before these avatars enter the market.

Ready Player Me works with the online social platform VRChat, the streaming app LIV.tv, and the VR game store SideQuest, as well as non-VR apps such as the Koji social platform.

Wolf3D was founded in 2014 by Tõke, Kaspar Tiri, Rainer Selvet and Haver Järveoja. For seven years he has been developing digital avatar technology based on selfies with the mission of feeding the next generation of online identity creation.

The company originally started with hardware booths that scanned images of people. He scanned about 20,000 people and placed them in a database that allowed the company to easily build avatars based on its selfies. This became the basic technology of the company.

“It allows people to visit many worlds and not start from scratch,” Tõke said.

In 2020, Wolf3D launched avatar creator Ready Player Me for developers, which began the company’s trajectory by becoming the metaverse avatar identity standard. To date, Wolf3D has raised $ 3.7 million from U.S. and European investors, including former Rovio salesman Peter Vesterbacka, Joshua Duyan of CTRL Labs and Markus Villig, CEO of Bolt.

The company currently employs 30 people in 10 countries. Tõke said he is currently in Estonia, but will likely move to Los Angeles. The company is now considering a round.

As for the name of the platform, based on the book Ready Player One, Ready Player Me is a reference to the idea that the metaverse should be you, the player at the center of the metaverse, and it should not be a company. or entity that controls the entire metavers, Tõke said.
